Four Fun Family Games to Play for Learning at Home

Playing games together is one of the best ways to build processing speed, executive functioning, and math thinking. Here are four of our favorites:

🎲 Tenzi: Quick and fun, and a round takes just 2 minutes. Fast rolling and matching build processing speed and visual attention.

🎲 Shut the Box: A classic that builds number sense, mental math, and planning ahead as kids decide which numbers to close.

🃏 BOLD: A matching game where players spot cards that match by color, shape, size, or pattern. It strengthens visual discrimination, working memory, and flexible thinking as kids switch between ways of matching.

👕 Piles!: A fast card game where everyone plays at the same time, with no turns, racing to collect matching outfits by swapping cards through a shared pile. It builds processing speed, quick decision making, and focus, and it teaches kids to plan and change strategies on the fly.

We'll teach these games during sessions, and they make wonderful, fast-paced additions to family time at home. Tenzi and Piles! are also great ways to practice beating the clock!
