5 Simple Steps to Prepare the Chalkboard for a NILD Discovery Session

To support the Rhythmic Writing component at home, a 3 ft. x 4 ft. chalkboard is required. This is the one most of us have from Amazon.

It will need to be hung on a wall. The area of the chalkboard to be used will be from their eyeballs to their belly button, so you'll want to place it accordingly, with room for them to grow. :)

You will want to get Crayola Dustless Chalk (and there will still be A LOT of dust!) We will supply your chalk holder.

Before first use, please follow these priming instructions to prepare your board:

5 Simple Steps to Prepare the Board for a Successful NILD Discovery Session

  1. Ensure the chalkboard is completely dry.

  2. Using the side of a piece of white chalk, rub the entire surface of the board in an up-and-down motion.

  3. Repeat the process in a side-to-side motion.

  4. Let the board sit for a few minutes.

  5. Wipe away excess chalk with a dry paper towel, cloth, soft rag, chalkboard brush, or sweeper cloth.

Tip: Never use water on your chalkboard.

Did you know? Research shows that writing with large arm movements on a vertical surface (like a chalkboard) activates both hemispheres of the brain, strengthening memory, attention, and motor coordination. It’s a powerful way to engage the brain while learning!
